CRICKET
history
Cricket was played for the first time on an organized basis
in 1952 at the Afrikaans High School. In 1953 Affi delivered the first
Afrikaans-speaking cricket player to the North-East Transvaal Nuf fi eld team.
Opportunity for participation and development
Over 230 boys are featured annually in Africa's 21 cricket
teams - o / 14A-G, o / 15A-E and 1 to 7. Cricket is hosted in the first, third
and fourth quarters and approximately 350 games are played. It is mainly played
in the Pretoria and Johannesburg leagues, but many matches are also played
elsewhere in the country. Winter programs are offered during the off season.
coaches
There are currently four level 3 coaches at the school: Deon
Botes (SA Schools and SA o / 19 scorer and Northern o / 17 and o / 18
convenor), Pieter Cronjé (Northern o / 19 coach and scorer) and Leon Jonker
(Northern O / 15 Coordinator). Evert Laubscher (biokineticist and level 3
coach) will be appointed in 2015 to handle all private coaching for B teams and
teams.
Facilities

Affies' 15 training courses were upgraded in 2014, of which
6 were fitted with floodlights. There are two cricket fields on the school
grounds and two cricket fields at the Pretoria Rugby Club used and maintained
by the school.

Outside Pretoria, Af fi es plays annually at Gray High
School (PE), SACS, Rondebosch, Durban High School, St. John's, King Edward VII
School, St. Stithians, Parktown Boys' High, St Benedict's, Paul Roos, Wynberg,
Paarl Boys High, Maritzburg College, Hilton, Westville, Glenwood, Gray College,
Kearsney College, St Charles, Bishops and Alberton Schools.
Tournaments and tours
The first team plays in January, before the schools reopen,
in turn at the Gray High Festival in Port Elizabeth and the Gray College Tournament
in Bloemfontein. At the end of the first quarter, the first, second, o / 14A
and o / 15A teams to Cape Town to meet Paul Roos Gymnasium, Wynberg Boys' and
Rondebosch Boys forces. In September, the first team plays in the Michaelmas
Festival Week at Maritzburg College, the o / 15As in the Gray High Festival
Week and the O / 14As in the Charl van Rooyen Festival Week, hosted by one of
the participating schools each year.
Af fi es delivers top cricketers
The school has already produced the following international
cricketers. For the Proteas: AB de Villiers (team crew), Francois (Faf) du
Plessis (team captain and T20 captain), Jacques Rudolph and Heino Kuhn. For New
Zealand: Kruger van Wyk and Neil Wagner.
performance Record
Affi is currently one of the best Afrikaans cricket schools
in the country. In 2016, the first team finishes number one on the High School
Cricket rankings and two Af fi e players are named the best players at national
tournaments: Ruan de Swardt at the CSA O / 18 Coke Week and Herman Rolfes at
the CSA O / 17 -Week.
Over the past 15 years, the school has produced ten players
for the SA School team and the SA o / 19 team. Many old Af fi es are currently
playing for senior provincial teams.
